8 Tips for Moving Towards Balance

Balance, oh balance. Such a tricky thing to nail! Is it even possible to find balance? And if you do find it, how the heck do you hang onto it?

We’ve been talking about our idea of balance this week and rather then it being something we can “arrive at” or “find”, we think of it more as something that we’re always working towards, having to shift this way and that way depending on the day, on the moment.

It’s a guidepost, a barometer of sorts- if you’re feeling out of balance it usually means it’s time to check in with yourself to shift your energy, your priorities, or your way of thinking.

So if you’re feeling out of whack, misaligned or stressed-out, our Maven Chat shares 8 tips you can use today to shift your life more towards balance:

{We mentioned our other video on self-care in this one- you can find that here. We also mentioned the totally Maven-tastic planners we use- we both love and recommend them- find those at erincondren.com.}

Let’s take action, Mavens! What tip from this video resonated with you most? Which are you going to focus on first to move toward more balance in your life?

If there’s a certain tip speaking to you, listen up! :) And talk to us in the comments below- we love hearing from you smart, talented bunch of Mavens! (yeah, you!)

    I love you ladies! I almost started crying while watching this video because I have felt so overwhelmed lately and truly needed to hear everything you said!

    I love the idea of us as a teeter totter and if I am balanced internally I will be better able to handle the ups and downs of certain aspects of my life. Yes! I have also been looking for a planner and asking around for suggestions and am so happy that you recommended one! I will seriously be buying this tonight! I also liked the idea of taking something off your plate in order to add something new on. I really needed to hear this because I just keep adding and lately I can’t focus on anything. I also loved the tips about having systems! My husband is constantly wondering how I get anything done. I decided to keep my little ones home more this summer but put no systems in place and it has been chaos!

    Super bigs hugs to you!

      Kerry, the feeling is mutual! We’ve been so busy in the last week or so that we haven’t gotten back to you. So glad last week’s topic and vid were relevant to you! As for the system idea, they can be fun to set up, craft your own or go to a store and buy a system or two, something to hold bills, and do-dads. I don’t know if they do this where you live, but sometimes I’ll look into free activities for kids in the summer too. Where we live they do a free movie in the park in different areas of town, it’s a fun thing for the kids to look forward to and it costs nothing. Good luck with your systems and balance! Thanks for reading and sharing, Kerry! – Jen

    I agree that balance is an ongoing challenge, but that focusing on your priorities and taking control of how you use your time makes a huge difference. Following Jena’s advice – Jena I follow your other blogs too! – I decided to take control of my email inbox a few weeks ago. I created folders and put all the messages in my email into one of those folders, starring any message that required additional action. I have been maintaining this system since then and it has already made a world of difference in my life. Email is no longer this overwhelming time suck! I feel more calm when dealing with my email and have carved out more time to take care of other things that bring me closer to my larger goals. Thanks ladies! Your insights and tips are a huge help!

      Hi Laura,
      This is Jen, the other half of the Maven Circle.:) Glad you’ve had such success with organizing your in box. It makes such a difference when you get a handle on something that’s been a stress to you in the past. It’s amazing how it can change your mood from overwhelm to calm and once you get there you think, “Why didn’t I do this a long time ago?” Or at least that what I always think. I’m about to redo some of the systems in my life because I have more categories of things that need to go places than I have places to put them. Keeping up with the changes in our schedules and making sure our systems fit our lives really helps with feeling on top of things. Thanks for reading and sharing your insights, Laura! – Jen
